Matariki is the Maori people’s New Year which happens every year in June. It’s a celebration of star constellations and the beginning of planting. CAE! asked to join in the celebration by doing a 3 day program with Maori leaders working with each of the Aurora College (high school) students to help educate them on their ancestry and facilitate a creative conversation on the importance of their lineage. It was an intensely focused time for all involved, completed with much satisfaction and happiness.
